How to Measure Anchor Profile Correctly
Learn to measure anchor profiles accurately for better coating adhesion and quality assurance on metal substrates, steel, and alloys.
Accurate anchor profile measurement is crucial to guarantee coating adhesion and long-term corrosion protection. The most reliable approach is using a replica tape system, such as Testex, or a high-precision digital profile gauge. Start by preparing a clean area, pressing the replica tape or probe firmly against the surface, and following the manufacturer’s instructions. Record at least three measurements at different spots and calculate the average for your final anchor profile. For steel, typical values range from 50–120 microns, but always check your coating’s requirements. Document results thoroughly and store them with your project QC files as proof of compliance.
